Feng Shui and furniture have had a tight relationship for thousands of years. But if you are not too deep into that and having a budget is more essential, read on to explore some simple tips we have collected to bring you another perspective in home decor.

Feng Shui does not have to be spiritual or religious, and it is generally applicable for everyone, not just the Chinese, in particular. Nowadays, more and more people of different ethnicities are involving Feng Shui in their lives and reaping its benefits. Feng shui is a pearl of ancient wisdom with precise applications in the home.

Always keep in mind that the strongest factor of your Feng Shui is you.

——Said Stefan Edmunds, the author of the book “Feng Shui 101 Easy And Fun: The World of Feng Shui at your Finger Tips”. So we hope you take this as a pinch of salt and do not worry so much about what to buy for your home, according to Feng Shui.

MOIRA Dining Set

Dining Sets

The dining room is a primary area in your home where people gather to share food, have conversations, and spend time together. To create a space to enhance that concept – one of sharing – we’ll need to turn our attention to the leading factor in the dining room: the dining set

Glass tabletops are chic and sleek, to be sure. Still, they aren’t conducive to good feng shui on a dining table. Glass dining table tops are believed to be a conduit for tense (negative) energy, which is a conduit for uneasy emotion (negative to be avoided).

Feng shui balances all the five elements in all spaces, but it relies more heavily on wood pieces as grounding and stabilizing. (The same is true for a wood headboard in the bedroom.) A high-quality wooden dining set is the best material for a feng shui in your dining space, although using a table in keeping with the rest of the dining room’s style is essential, too. Make sure that the dining set is made of high-quality wood.

Shifting furniture

Relocating your furniture within your home space once is also a good feng shui technique. The furniture movement releases stale “chi” that has been trapped unknowingly and may cause you to experience a loss of energy and luck.

A smooth flow of “chi” within the house is essential. It cannot be too strong or too weak. Long passages and aligned doors fasten the flow of “chi” and are considered harmful. To ease its speed, you can place a small piece of furniture to break the flow. Mirrors that raise the appearance of a long hall or extra doors should be dodged.

Configure Your Home for Luck

The diagram called the “Lo Shu” or “Lo River Writing.” is a map or grid of the natural flow of chi and the elements, and this square with its numbers became a foundational tool in Feng Shui and Taoist traditions. The square is also carried as an amulet or placed in homes and offices as a protective charm.

Arrangement for your living room to enhance your luck. If you have a big living room, you can have eight chairs or four two-seater sofas or a combination of different types of seating gathered around a large coffee table. The furniture follows a 3 by 3 grid for the Lo Shu configuration. This configuration is suitable for smaller homes. Two low stools or a bench facing the main sofa with the coffee table in between. A chair or bench will not block the grand view of your sofa.

Keep the Harmony in the Family

The purpose of a living room is to increase communication and discussion at home among family members and act as a place for gathering after a hard day at work or school. With the TV as a powerful distraction, this becomes difficult.

To reduce the deleterious effects of the TV, you can try having a feature wall in wood for your living room. The wood element is vitality, growth, and kindness. Wood energy is also related to flexibility and human-heartedness. This is a great way to bring in visual and textural contrast without ever trying too hard. A feature wall addition demands little work than a complete living room remodel. You have a relaxing backdrop and a captivating focal point for your refreshing interior. This will allow you to achieve a circular seating arrangement with maximum feng shui.

Wood Elements Bring Happiness

Wood is the only one of the five elements considered to be living. Wood has primarily yang (masculine, active) energy, but it also has elements of yin (receptive, feminine). It is associated with Spring and new beginnings, new life, and new growth. It has combined strength and flexibility qualities and is perfect for homes in tropical countries like Singapore. Metal and fire elements damage to wood, so don’t get wooden furniture with lots of steel and plastic. Solid wood and high-quality wood is strongly recommended.

Choosing the type of wood is also essential. Myseat.sg specializes in toxic-free and high-quality solid wood furniture.

Bedroom Rules

The location of your bed in a room is crucial in feng shui. The doors, the bathroom and windows all govern the bed’s position. A few simple rules to follow are as follows.

  1. Do not allow your feet to point directly to the door while in your sleeping position. If this is absolutely impossible, get a bed with a wooden footboard to help prevent your positive chi from exiting via the door. A wooden platform bed can be an excellent choice.
  2. Place your headboard against a solid wall. The wall is like a mountain that will imbue you with strength. In ancient China, they would build their houses in the south with mountains behind. This protected them from the harsh north winds of the Gobi. If your room is a little small with limited options and your bed’s headboard is pointing to a window, try to get a bed with a tall headboard that covers the back of your head when sitting upright. This headboard will act as your strong wall.
  3. Do not place your bed against a wall with a toilet behind. This may not be possible in today’s tight apartments, but you can mitigate this problem by placing a large, heavy object on the flush tank, such as a big stone. This is to suppress any bad luck emanating from the toilet. You can also hang a picture of a mountain (without any waterfalls) above the headboard. The image signifies strength.

The Study

The study room or home office is quickly evolving into commonplace. This is especially so with the improvements in communications and internet technologies. A place where you can work efficiently it is crucial. The key furniture needs for such a place are a worktop and storage space. If you use the room for business, it is vital to have quality furniture.

A strong desk is a must. A solid wood table of at least 17mm to 34mm is ideal; an unsteady table will result in a shaky business or career. Facing a bright window or a nice view is more important because this will energize you and enhance your productivity. Get one with thick shelves if you have a hutch on your table. Thin shelves act like blades or poisoned arrows and hurt your ‘chi’.

Storage is essential in the home office. Open shelves are convenient and allow easy access. Closed shelves hide the clutter and improve the chi flow. The best solution is actually a combination of both. Have a section of open shelves for your commonly used objects. Keep the shelves full- empty shelves are bad luck. For open shelves, make sure they’re constructed using thick and strong wood. Glass and chipboard shelves are weak and will act like poisoned arrows. Wooden frames are best as they soften the sharp edges of the glass.
